Our servers and database is all up and running but the line that connects them to the Internet has something wrong. We use Cogent. Lol, so if you ever start an internet company you know who not to use, lol. We have a secondary line but it is not set up to flip over automatically.

We got off the phone with Cogent and they said they'd have the connection back up soon. Unfortunately I don't know what "soon" means. To me soon would be like 10 minutes. Hopefully their Soon isn't an hour.

What a crappy week for us and the companies we count on. Unfortunately with my luck we'll probably crash and burn on Sunday or Tuesday(it's the last day of the listing discount) and that time it'll be our servers or something stupid that was under our control. It's Murphy's Law. I'm hoping by saying this I'll jinx that and everything will run smoothly.

(((Jeff))) When it rains it pours. My experience with you guys is that you guys have always provided exemplary customer service. I hope it gets better.
It's going to be about 2 hours I guess. One of the sys admins got off the phone after me and the card reload failed remotely so someone has to drive there and they are like 1-2 hours away I guess. I can understand that with us as we're in a crazy hick town 2 hours north of Sacrmamento but I'd think a major bandwidth provider that has service contracts would have someone closer. I'm pretty sure if by the time they fix this will be close to 3.5 hours. I'm not sure what our SLA says with them but I can't imagine that 3.5 hours in a month of downtime meets it. That doesn't do me much good though. I can get some part of my fees back but it just wrecks our image among sellers. I'm ok with that when we screw up but I'm starting to get a bit mad our our partners. Arg.
So we also have on sys admin driving to Sacramento to change the settings on our router/firewall to use our backup connection from XO. It may be possible that we're converted over and DNS is changed to use our backup before Cogent fixes things which would be nice. Of course once we switch to XO I wouldnt plan on switching back to Cogent. Screw them. Then when it comes time to renew our contract they'll have to beg me to stay or lower our price.

When the site comes back up depending on how long after your listings were scheduled they'll either have failed to launch and you'll need to reschedule them, or our server will keep trying. Just check the status when you log in. Things may be wonky for a few minutes after our servers reconnect as they'll be trying to do a couple hours worth of work all at once.

Quick question Jeff, 2-3 hours is going to put the site coming up really close to when you guys regularly schedule your maintenance. Will it then go back down for maintenance?
Well Jeff between Amazon and Cogent you have every right to expect nothing but the best. You made good choices - and who would've thunk! Anyway we went to the Cogent web site - Lookinglass. Used their tool to try and ping L.A. 4.0.0.0 and the entire thing is off the grid. And they are one of the 13 Primarys! YIKES!!!! Can't help but wonder who else is off the air. The internet is a wonderful thing BUT OH SO FRAGILE! Thanks for your participation. John and Carmen in Prescott, AZ (and we thought our lines were bad....)
Jeff....don't worry the fact that you are here and informing us SPEAKS VOLUMES. I think your reputation is intact. Mistakes happen...things happen, but what really matters is what you do with a problem/issue. I know MEG has NEVER NEVER been there for me AND I HAVE HAD MULTIPLE WITH EBAY AND PAYPAL. With Ebay/Paypal, I do everything within my power to give them as little money and business as possible....whereas with you/Auctiva I was wondering how to make a donation to make sure you keep in business. It's amazing how good customer service effects the good will of your customers to you. Absolutely LOVE AUCTIVA AND TELL EVERYONE ABOUT IT. pj
Thanks for the info. I have the same question as ticeland. Will you proceed tonight with the regularly scheduled maintenance?
Would be nice if you could keep the site up if you get it back up tonight. Also, I'll say it again... the Thursday night shut down for maintenance is really inconvenient from my perspective. It would be so much better if this could be done on Saturday (it is always the slowest day & I'm sure many would agree). I know you have people off on the weekend & that probably makes it appealing to work there, but you could always change that.

I also agree with pj3360 and even though you have had some site problems this week, I have to wonder why you don't start an auction site. You are more capable than anyone to give eBay some real competition!

Thanks Jeff for the updates. Hopefully my auctions will not post sometime in the middle of the night--I hope to be able to go in and re-schedule them. Thanks again for your help!
