We have all seen a small picture next to the URL of a professional site and wondered whether we could have the same for our stores. There have been some posts in the forums asking Auctiva to add this facility. Well, you can do it now, it’s easy and works. See my miniature logo next to my URL:
The first step is to create your favicon. This must be a 16x16 pixels image. Create a larger version in your image editor (Photoshop or anything else). I suggest a larger version to start with, so that you can see what you are doing. A 48x48 or 96x96 will be fine, just remember that it should be square, not rectangular.
Save the image as a JPG file on your desktop. Make sure that you save it to the highest quality possible. Search on Google for “favicon” and you will find hundreds of favicon creator sites, which will upload your JPG file and create a 16x16 ICO file to save on your desktop.
Now, you have to store your image somewhere. Auctiva image manager uploads only JPG or GIF files, you cannot store it there. Try another image hosting site that accepts ICO files. I have found a few searching on Google but have not subscribed to any as I host my image in my own non-Auctiva website. Have a look at these but use another one if you prefer:
Once your image is stored, go to your dashboard and select Store > Theme > Customize Store Theme. At the bottom of the Home page select Customize > Header and, when the editor opens, click on Source to see the HTML code. Go to the top and add the following two lines at the beginning:
replacing the xxxxxxxxxxxx with your hosting site.
Save and you are ready.
Notes:
1) To see the results, clear the cache, close and reopen your browser. In my case, this wasn’t necessary but sometimes you have to do it when you add the favicon.
2) Favicons are supported by most modern browsers including Internet Explorer (5.0 and above), Opera, FireFox etc. FireFox supports favicons even in GIF or PNG formats but IE needs an ICO file. Unless you want to have an animated GIF file, which wouldn’t look very professional though, it’s better to stick with the ICO type, accepted by all browsers.
3) The favicon is placed next to the store name when one bookmarks it.
Good luck with implementation. This message has been edited. Last edited by: Athens Collectibles,

Easy for you George!
I have discovered that my favicon is visible when I use http://rosavita.auctivacommerce.com/ but not when I use rosavita.co.uk I haven't a clue why LOL

In case anyone else has the above problem I think I've solved it by going to the website of the company my domain name is registered with (123-reg) and going to 'manage domains' and changing from 'Framed web-forwarding' to 'Non-framed web-forwarding to a single page'
It means that my auctiva commerce address now shows in the title bar instead of co.uk but I am happy with that at the moment.

Rosemary, I haven't forwarded my domain yet, so I cannot comment on your solution.
What I would do as an experiment is to insert the two lines of code in the index page of my domain and the favicon in the root directory and see if that worked. On the other hand, this might just be nonsense. There are others, more expert, who might be able to give some proper advice to you and me.This message has been edited. Found it! Folks, if you need to have the instructions to adding the favicon, read:
