There are literally hundreds of stores out there that you can get with no buyers and pay $10-20 a month for. That's not going to be our focus. The majority of people need buyers.
We're trying to build pricing that is fair to both sellers and us so that you don't want to do what you do with eBay which is to leech traffic off in order to pay lower fees. I also want to reward those sellers that do bring their own buyers with lower fees on those transactions.
We've got a chance to do something pretty great here. I'm going to be very transparent on what the goals are, where the money is going from fees, etc. Sellers will enjoy higher margins through lower fees, some of that savings will be passed along to buyers and Auctiva will benefit though your selling more. Because you'll want to sell more with us because when you do better everyone else does better too.
dutchman, what's your question? So you're from Canada....are you saying Canadians aren't allowed to use Auctiva or something?

No, I have been using Auctiva for a long time. What I am asking is Auctiva's going to be similar to most that it is basically set up for the USA in regards to weights, measures, and shipping(USPS) none of which are suitable for Canucks to use. It would be very nice if you were able to use metric, and Canadian shipping module since I live in Canada.
ok, thanks for being more descriptive. I always help to be as descriptive as possible, regarding the issues and features you'd like changed. I imagine Auctiva will look at what percentage of their users are Canadians...if it's quite small, I wouldn't hold your breath....but hopefully they'll address your needs, too.
The storefronts support multiple currencies, but I'm not sure about the shipping options or weights and measures. If they aren't in the beta then I'm afraid they probably aren't supported right now.
dutchman48 is right. This is more suited for US-based sellers. I wonder if the shipping estimation works for foreign sellers.
By the way, how do I change the currency? After I have setup a new currency and make it default, there is no changes. Too bad the base currency is USD.
In this world we are living right now, there are stuff that we can share, especially the routine stuff. For example, the shipping rate. I wish there is a template that someone can create and share with everybody. I am using POS Malaysia and they divide the wolrd into a few zones. Is there a quick way to designate a zone? After we setup info like this, this info can be shared with those who use the same carrier. Maybe we can setup our own handling fees.
Is there a way to add shipping option such as insurance, registration fees, express delivery?
For payment, how do I setup Paypal,Google Checkout, credit card? There are only checking and PO available.
I appreciate the opportunity to test your beta e-commerce site but have one question before I proceed to do so:
After briefly viewing the options available for shipping it appears that there are no shipping options for Canada Post, so does that mean that so far your new e-commerce site is geared towards US based sellers only?
I just signed up, this looks interesting and promising.
Just one thing I want to change immediately if possible - my default storefront name is my ID, abeautifulfind. I don't want that to be my store name, as my regular customers won't know it's me. How can I change the store name to my choice?
Originally posted by Qster: While this is in Beta, we can't actually offer things for sale to customers can we? If so, what's the URL to our stores?
Sorry Qster, the beta is for looking only. No one should process live transactions. We are not saving any data you enter into your store during the beta. This is why we are only showing very limited payment methods. When we go live you will have authorize.net, google checkout, paypal, and paypal payflow pro. We can add other gateways and merchants as needed. During the beta the best way to see your store is to click the link to it in the upper right hand of the admin console.
It's great to be back in the Auctiva community since I left Ebay last spring. In searching other venues, one of the problems I found are the limitations on payment options sellers can offer.
Other than accepting credit cards, will sellers be able to offer any payment options they want?
Examples would be, Moneybookers, Auctionchex, Revolution Money Exchange, money orders, etc.
It is important that buyers will be able select the preferred method, and see it on their invoice, and that sellers can change or delete an option if necessary.
Will sellers receive buyers email address? Google checkout does not permit that, and I always contact the buyer immediately upon purchase.
The other issue is, I do not want to offer Paypal. Do I have a choice?
Also, Revolution Money Exchange has a "Join Now" button that I would like to have on my item pages.
Have answers to these questions been decided on yet?
I forgot to say that Revolution Money, Auctionchex and Moneybookers is a direct transaction between buyer and seller, with both having an account to do a money transfer.
I'm asking if the options can be shown, and that the buyer will see their selection on the invoice to confirm it, and avoid confusion.
You do not have to use paypal. Paypal is one of many options you can offer your buyers. You can create new payment methods and name them whatever you like. For example I've seen "phone call" or check or money order etc. all of these representing payment methods that are not electronic. However, if the payment method requires and integration with a 3rd party such as authorize.net, paypal, google checkout then we are limited to just these.
I imaging the Join Now button is just some html that you would insert into the store template or into the description of specific items.
Thanks Spencer for your quick answer. It's great to know that payment options will not be a problem, and I assume, that the Join Now Revolution Money button, once placed on the template the first time, will automatically show up on the rest.
What do you mean by low cost? I'm not trying to preclude any type of seller or item but I can see how pricing at competitors such as Yahoo Stores or ProStores would do that for some types of low priced items.
