I was wondering if anyone has used the number # symbol in the Manufacturer's Part Number field that Google requires.
The reason I ask is that some of the part numbers I need to use start with a zero, such as 07577. The csv spreadsheet that you download from Auc Comm as a template will not accept a number with the 0 in front. It removes the zero and becomes 7577.
I'm pretty sure the zero is there. Many programs like Excel will remove leading zeros like that when it displays data. I bet if you try to open the csv with notepad (or wordpad) you'll find the zeros are there
EDIT:
Oops..I should have read Dave's post. I'd do what he said
Thanks for the replies. I was concerned that Auc Comm required the fields to be in that certain format. I guess the best thing to do is give it a try and see if it kicks out an error.
The # sign is a forbidden or "command" character and therefore can cause problems. Most programs do not allow # in key fields. You can also go down to the bottom of the list in format fields and choose "Custom". For example, I use it for the UPC field. I choose custom and type in 000000000000. That way it will always show the leading zero(s).

Bob, since the manufacturers numbers vary in length it doesn't seem that your format would work since it adds more than one zero in front depending on how long you make the custom format.
I have also found that when you save the .csv file it does not save special formats that you have created.
After I have uploaded some new listings with the # sign in the Manufacturers Number field I will report back on wether it creates errors or not.
It works fine for me. I use it for every feed I send. UPCs are 8 or 12 characters. EANs are 13. Using the zeros is the same as making a "picture" format to numbers only in a dbf file.
