I may be missing something, but I haven't been able to allocate listings to my store categories meaning that I need to go in after the listing is submitted to eBay and revise each item. Otherwise items are automatically assigned to the 'other' category. Is there any hope of having this rectified in the near future?

Have you downloaded your store catagories? Just go to Tools, manage catagories.

When you start the poster you should see the menus at the top of the page. That's where you'll find the tools menu. Do it before you open a new listing.
