Still Need Info on Useful website traffic generators
Hi,

I am building my website and am looking into the various programs out there to get traffic to your website. It all sounds like a bunch of bull to me. If you have used something that has worked or failed miserably, please let me know.

Has anyone tried any of these programs or software that actually has worked. Not looking for a sales pitch but actual experience from using a traffic program.

I guess along those same line, what have you used to improve your ranking on the search engines. Again, not looking for a sales pitch just want actual usage experience.

Thank in advance.

It's all about Meta Tags. Make sure you've got accurate, concise descriptions in the Meta Tags on your pages.

I don't subscribe to anything other than advertising through search engines like Google (which is number one despite what Yahoo tells you), Yahoo, etc.

I thought metatags where not really used by the search engines any more, because of misuse.

One thing is, and I speak from experience, don't go for those companies that promise something like "10,000 garaunteed well-targeted hits within 2 months!" or any such variation. I tried that with a website I did a while ago, and I got the 10,000 hits alright, but 0 sales. Don't fall for it like I did.

Good advice, have you used anything that has been useful?

Stacey..

I've never paid for any of the services your asking about. I've never even considered paying anyone or any service.

I use Meta Tags like cuhhhrazy...I know, I know, they're supposed to be on the outs. But I still use them. If you use clearly and well thought out meta tags..your site will get picked up.

What I do, is put my link out there everywhere possible and cross-link with other sellers.
(example: the 360 link in my sig)

The majority of my outside eBay sales come from my link on my ME page with eBay.

You need to always..no matter what you're using use sig tags. Signature tags. I have them in every selling board I belong to, every email that goes out, every page that I'm allowed to have a link on, etc. My links are there for anyone to see what I sell.

Another thing I did was open free ecrater stores. Ecrater feeds to Froogle/Google. That brings up my items in Google searches, too. The other day I checked on an item and I was number 2...not bad! Plus, I make sales out of ecrater so why not use a free store.

Gotta run!
Good luck,
Donna

Wow! and I thought metatags were not really used anymore. If you don't mind, I could sure use some help with setting mine up for my website that is underconstruction. I will have to check out ecrater, never heard of that before.

Thanks for the great advice.
