I'm having a problem with shipping and insurance not being accurately conveyed to paypal. The auctiva invoice is correct but insurance gets included in shipping on paypal and the shipping information is wrong but the cost is correct. for ex. selected Priority mail but paypal showed the correct price but listed the mailing preference as media mail.
???

yes i have also had this problem - this week. I found it was me selecting the "required" insurance rather than "optional" if you select required it will automatically combine the postage of insurance and regular postage cost. if you select optional it will only display the regular postage cost with right at the bottom of your listing showing your insurance cost.

I just had this same thing happen to me. Paypal (which is what I print out and take to post office with me) showed buyer paid for parcel post. Auctiva shows he paid for priority. I sent parcel and now my buyer is upset! I checked and I had "optional" checked for my insurance so that's not the problem. I really need to know if this is going to be an ongoing problem because if so I will just disable Auctiva checkout and insurance and do it the old-fashioned way.

I should have updated my post. I found out that auctiva checkout is considered "third party" and is not fully supported (i.e., information transfer is subject to error) by Paypal. Auctiva is aware of the problem and since "third party" billing is rumored to be phased out (no longer accepted) by eBay/Paypal in early 2009 not much is being done (based on information I received 09.2008 from Auctiva). Since it's too confusing for buyers' and almost impossible to adjust errors or charges, I'm back to ebay checkout. Also, I had one buyer complain that he paided for insurance (and yes he received Auctiva's invoice for insurance) but he didn't think he should pay for the insurance since the label on the usps package didn't indicate that it was insured. Go Figure....

Thank you rw for responding. I too will go back to ebay checkout. Just easier for all concerned. I don't mind the extra step of insuring at the post office.

Hi Community,

The behavior described in this thread occurs due to some deficiencies in the way the Paypal APi handles third party checkout systems. We have brought this to their attention but haven't received any information that would indicate anything will be done about it - which does make a decent amount of sense given that eBay is planning on doing away with third party checkout in the first half of next year.

If a buyer purchased insurance through a third party checkout system, the Paypal notification will state that insurance was not offered and the insurance cost will be lumped in with the shipping cost in the "Shipping" section. Similarly, when a customer goes through a third party checkout system, the Paypal notification will list the first shipping service offered on the listing instead of the actual shipping service selected by the buyer during checkout.

If you are using Auctiva Checkout, I recommend going by the "Checkout Complete" emails Auctiva sends or the checkout details listed on your Auctiva Transactions page to avoid confusion in this regard. The checkout details listed there will reflect the correct shipping service and the insurance cost will be itemized separately.

If you have any additional questions or concerns regarding your Auctiva account, please contact our customer support team using the web form on the following page: http://www.auctiva.com/help/requesthelp.aspx
