I had the same question this past summer so I went directly to U-Pic (Auctiva's insurance carrier). Here is the question I posed to them and the response from Jesse at U-Pic:
"Hi,
I use Auctiva for eBay and purchase insurance through them (and you). I have a question that a buyer posed to me: If a package is lost and it is insured through you, then you cover the cost of the item as well as the shipping cost. But, according to USPS, if an item is just damaged, then they just cover the item and not the shipping. Do you have the same rules for damaged items and the shipping charge as the USPS or do you cover everything all the time?
Thanks.
Doug
Good Morning Doug,
In this case as well as in any case we would cover the amount of shipping as long as that amount is included in the total amount insured. If you have any further questions feel free to contact us or respond to this email. Have a great day.
-Jesse-"
So, unlike the Post Office, U-Pic WILL cover shipping and that makes Auctiva's insurance even more attractive! Hope that helps.
