Hi, Can somebody tell me how I can find the auctiva policy. They base charges on item cost plus S&H. Postal insurances base rate on ask value of item. Please fill me in if you got a minute. Is the S&H riembursed, or just added in to knock the rate to a different bracket. Thank You

I have filed a claim before, and shipping cost is indeed reimbursed.

Thanks for the help!! kbalona,Shadeaux, and biscuit. Sorry I did not reply earlier but I could not find my question(newbie). Auctiva had me very frustrated that week, but I am getting to learn how to use it better now. The main reason I use it is the insurance seems much less complicated than USPS. Thanks Again, Mike

Hi there folks ..

I apologize in advance for the length of this, but I really need help with this insurance thing. I'm really confused and need to get an item out in the mail to a buyer, but don't understand the concept of this ...

Someone won/purchased one of my listings on ebay yesterday and evidently they chose to purchase the optional shipping insurance.

This is the first time this has happened to me so far. (I'm new to not only listing thru auctiva, but also new to selling anything on ebay or online at all --- just selling a few things around the house a 'spring cleaning', if you will -- and have been listing/selling via auctiva on ebay for about 2 weeks now)...

Anyway, things have been going very smoothly up to this point. Have sold about 10 (or so) items. Buyer paid (not choosing insurance) the invoice and I package up and bring to post office: post office clerk determines the shipping cost for me and I pay for the shipping there. In other words, I don't have a scale and don't really know much about those type of other shipping things up to this point.

Now, I'm confused though, big time with this insurance thing. As soon as the person paid the invoice I did get an automatic email from auctiva altering me that the person chose the insurance and the email directed me back to the auctiva website to purchase the insurance.

But I haven't done that yet: for starters, their website seems to be down right now for Thurs. night updating -- but also, I don't understand what will happen, how on earth this works. I pay them for insurance on this ... but how on earth does that work with my post office? .... Do I then need to bring in some sort of insurance reciept and give to my post office clerk when I bring this package in to the postal office to ship? ...

Totally, totally confused.

I've read the 2 links that others have attached to this thread that gives additional information on auctiva insurance --- but, I still don't 'get it'. I don't get the overall concept of the shipping insurance thing at all.

Can someone help me please I will be so grateful. Also, is there a customer service phone number for the folks at autiva? (this might be something that merits a phone conversation, so someone at their office can help walk me through this ... but I can't seem to find a phone number listed anywhere).

Thank you so much in advance, everyone or anyone. I'm a bit frantic about this at the moment, and really do apologize for the length of this and thank you for reading through it.

No. Auctiva's insurance is through a third party, and USPS is not involved in any way. Just mail your packages like you normally would, and purchase insurance on Auctiva for the customer that paid for it. Make sure that you keep your USPS receipts for items that you shipped. Also, if you're not buying Delivery Confirmation for your packages (at the PO), it's a good idea to start using it.

If you need help from Auctiva, click the "Help" link at the top of the page, and then you will see the "File a Support Request" link on the right side (under "Customer Support").

If you have any specific questions about insurance, you could also contact U-PIC, which is the company that provides Auctiva with shipping insurance. Their site is www.u-pic.com, and they have a toll free number on their home page, as well as online chat, during business hours. Just let them know that you use U-PIC insurance through the Auctiva service. I have contacted them in the past with questions, and they have always been very helpful.
