Ok, I have started requiring insurance on all of my auctions. Most auctions are under $50 so insurance is $1.30...$1.05 to me. I recently had an auction end just under $100(total) insurance was $3.20 thru auctiva/u-pid.....why would a buyer pay that when they could buy it from usps for $2.05. I am confused about the insurance thing It doesn't look like it is as great of a deal as it appears. Any thoughts.
You were charged the "over $100" rate because U-PIC insurance (Auctiva's insurance) insures both the sales price, and the shipping price. If a package is lost or damaged, you are reimbursed for your total cost.
Some see this as a plus, some as a minus. Considering the cost of shipping nowadays, I tend to think it's a good thing...
The USPS also just changed their rates in that tier to be a little lower than they were before their recent price hike at the start of May. We'll be adjusting our prices in the next update to match the USPS prices.
However in this case it probably still would have been slightly more than $2.05 because os Biscuit mentioned we include the price of shipping in the insurance amount. That is normally a good thing and doesn't raise the price paid, but sometimes it does when you go from one tier into the next one.

Checkout for that item wasn't completed. It was entered but not completed.
In the listing the most expensive shipping option was $14.55 and the item ended for $86.51 which would put the total over $100.
If the item was shipping using any of the cheaper shipping options then it would be less than $100 and cost $1.70. The cost to you for over $100 is $2.45.
The changes will probably be in the July release because it's too late to get into our release for the beginning of June because we've already sent a preliminary version to QA for testing.
You can file a support case and they can adjust it from $2.45 to $1.70 for you.

The buyer outsmarted the system....she entered checkout but must have seen the insurance charge which shows $3.20 even on my account. She left and just sent me the money through paypal "send anyone money tab" She did choose the cheapest way to ship....can't say that I blame her(with shipping these days) So I don't actually need to file a claim but thanks for all of the great info.....one more question so it was showing a higher insurance rate because I offered different methods of shipping some of which would have taken it over $100 had the buyer decided to go that route. But had she finished checkout and chosen the cheaper way of shipping would the cost of insurance adjusted on its own?
