I am new to Auctiva and I love that it saves me some cash on listing fees. I have one question, I have decided not to use Auctiva checkout and instead stick with eBay checkout. As far as insurance goes, when I select insurance as optional, am I correct in assuming that it will be credited to the buyer and not me. Am I also correct in assuming that this "Optional/Required" insurance option is not linked to any Auctiva insurance policy? Also, is it calculated automatically based on total price? Anyway, thank you very much for your time.
ps I have Auctiva checkout and Auctiva insurance disabled in my account settings already.

i'm not sure if i will state this correctly, but someone can fix it if need be. Wink Razz

i don't use auctiva checkout either. i have ins. listed as 'optional' in my listings (note: ins. recently went up, so you should figure that in, from 1.35 to 1.65 i think)... anyway, if someone wants ins., they can add it via ebay checkout. then you need to go into your 'sales' tab, and into the transaction page... then, just find the item you want to add ins. for, and click 'add ins.'.. that's it. it is separate from your shipping label, so if anyone needs to claim anything (hasn't happened to me yet) you'll have to go thru here to make the claim via upic, whom auctiva has the ins. deal with. (thanks auctiva!)
you WILL need to add money to your ins. account to purchase ins.!! you can do this in $5 increments (i believe).. (if you don't, you'll be in the red and i'm sure someone will get you Wink ) but you are buying the ins. for cheaper than you charge. Smile

so say someone buys a 5$ widget from you and wants to add ins., which in your auction you charge 1.65 for. after they pay you, go into the transactions and do like i said above. add the $5 (or whatever amt.) into your ins. account(it comes out of paypal). then when you purchase your ins., you pay for the auctiva ins.(how much $??? what is it now? it was 1.20? someone help w/ this..) and then you make the .45cents (or however much is left after you buy the ins.)

now, obv. the next few times you won't have to add any money in, cuz you'll have a balance.. then whenever someone gives you 1.65 for ins., you buy the ins. for only 1.20. (note again, amt. subject to change!)

bleh, i like to help, but sometimes i overexplain stuff. let me know if that helped!!

thank you for your write up, I understand a little better now. So for example, I also have insurance as optional, but I have Auctiva insurance disabled in my account settings, what insurance would that buyer get if they chose required?

well, i guess that depends on whether on not you have auct. insurance activated. if you don't, you won't get the 'auctiva discount'. they'll just purchase ins. via ebay checkout, which you're right has nothing to do w/ auctiva, and frankly, i don't know what you do after that cuz i've never done it! Razz ... but if you activate auctiva ins., you get a *lil* money back everytime, cuz you get it at the auctiva discount price. that's what i do. hope that helps some more! Smile

okay, if the buyer choses not to have insurance, I can still declare a value on the item when i create the shipping label via paypal correct? That is usually how I do my insurance.

i'm sure you can... cuz it's an option right under whether or not you want the postage amt. shown, right? it should be there whether or not you purchase the ins.. i'm perty sure it says something like 'amt. of value if insured' or something, doesn't it? then you just check yes or no for ins. but i'm not sure why you NEED to declare the value if they're not buying ins.? and if you do go thru auctiva ins., you DO have to get it thru here, not paypal. but if you don't use auctiva ins., i'm guessing you can yes, just go thru paypal.

edit/// actually, most of my buyers don't buy ins., and i'm sure i remember seeing that part on paypal, so you should be fine...

as for your prev. quest., if you have auctiva ins. disabled, and your buyer selects ins., you'll have to go thru paypal or usps. (auctiva's so much easier, really! Wink )
