I had to break an item into 3 boxes due to weight and size.

I purchased insurance for it (over $600), but now I am wondering how that covers an item in 3 boxes? What if one is destroyed or lost, but not the other 2? Am I covered for the full amount on each box, or am I supposed to try and figure the value of each piece and insure them separately?

With this item, basically if they lose one part it is a total write off because replacing that part will be 99% impossible and the item will not function without it.

I had to go to the PO to mail this one instead of PayPal shipping because I could not accurately weigh that much, but I did buy delivery confirmation.

They said if I did not buy USPS insurance it was not covered. I tried to explain Auctiva insurance to deaf ears and then just said no to their insurance and gave up trying to explain that it was covered. Now I am wondering.....

I just mailed it yesterday (2007-12-28) so if I need to change how I covered the 3 boxes I need to know asap.

Hi Spotmom,
I would suggest filing a support request and explaining the situation. I know they combine items for one shipment but yours is a different problem. I would think it would all be covered but it would be best to get it in writing from support. Good Luck.

You can also try calling U-PIC customer support directly at (800) 955-4623. U-PIC is the provider of Auctiva's insurance, and I have found them to be very helpful in the past.

You NEED to contact someone on this, though. Don't just assume that it is covered.

Well, emailed Auctiva support, no reply. Called Upic this morning, they are closed till the 2nd, so I also emailed them.

It may arrive before I get an answer, and it went parcel post.

I did recieve an answer from Auctiva and the below emails from U-PIC. They were prompt and courteous with the replies. I will combine all 3 answers here for anyone else with the same question:

If the items you are sending are a set and the entire set loses all of its value with the destruction of a part, and there is no repair cost, you have a chance to file a claim for the entire value of the set. As for the multiple boxes, each box is supposed to be insured individually and in the case of a claim, an invoice with the breakdown of the charges will be required in order to determine the value for the items in the specific box. That is assuming it is not a set. Let me know if this helps and if you have any further questions.

I talked with our claims manager and he said that as long as it is on the same item number through Auctiva, then all three boxes will be covered.
