I have a situation that I need a little guidance on and I hope someone responds. Recently I had issues with my shipping methods and insurance, and long story short, it was all cured by having USPS as the first method to choose and UPS as the second. Well now I have some items that I want to require insurance on, but if the buyer chooses UPS they won't have to purchase the insurance. I'm wondering if I make insurance a requirement with having USPS first and UPS second for choices, will this cause a policy generation issue for insurance again. I don't want the system to automatically start charging for a policy for buyers who choose UPS. Does any of this make sense or have I now confused everyone else too? Mad

Hi Buffy1qt,

Sure! The problem you were affected by previously has since been resolved so the order in which your shipping options are listed won't impact the way insurance is handled any longer.

Since UPS provides $100 of coverage free of charge, if a given auction for which insurance is specified as "Required" sells for less than $100, and your buyer chooses shipping via UPS, neither you nor your buyer will be charged for shipping insurance, and the item will be insured by UPS. On the other hand, if your buyer chooses shipping via USPS, both you and your buyer will be charged for the required insurance, and the package will be covered by Auctiva's shipping insurance. If the item sells for greater than $100, both you are your buyer will be charged for the required insurance, and the item will be covered by Auctiva Shipping Insurance as well.

I hope this information addresses all of your concerns. If not, feel free to ask for further assistance via support case or a reply to this thread.

Mike,
Had an incident where this didn't happen. I required insurance, buyer chose UPS, the price was less than $100 and an insurance policy was generated. I filed a support request and it was corrected, but I thought the problem was fixed. What's the deal? Confused

Hi Mike,
I'm new to Auctiva and am very happy with the wonderful services provided at no cost! However, I was very surprised to learn I owed $3.80 for insurance that I never collected because all three packages went through UPS which includes it. My listings clearly stated that insurance was required for those items and that it was included in their shipping charge. I guess I just don't understand how Auctiva insurance works. I have disabled it for the time being. Would you let me know if I have been unfairly charged and where we go from here? Additionally, I would appreciate knowing how to avoid this situation in the future. Thank you so much for your patience and attention to this matter.

Buff1qt,

If the price was close to $100, and the shipping cost pushed the total invoice amount over $100, that should also cause an Auctiva Shipping Insurance policy to be generated. If that was not the case, please follow up on the support request you filed and request we look into it further. (Feel free to quote my post if you'd like)

BVZ,

Welcome! Please file a support request from our help page, http://www.auctiva.com/free-auction-software-help/help.aspx, and we will be happy to refund you for the insurance policies that you did not need due to the items being covered automatically by UPS.

There are a few different ways to avoid this scenario but, the most effective way to do so, depends on the selection of shipping services you typically offer. Feel free to ask this question in your support request and well provide you with the best solution. (Ask for Mike when you file your support request)

-Mike
