Is there a way to just put USPS insurance as an option in Auctiva listings like you can in regular eBay listings?
The reason I would prefer to use USPS shipping is that the package itself would show that it is insured, rather than me just telling the buyer its insured without any documentation on the package itself.
You do have the option of using Auctiva insurance and sending an email with the proof of insurance to ease your customer's minds.
Go to the Transactions page and click on the View Insurance link to the right of your closed listing. At the bottom of that page you have the option of sending an insurance email to your customer to prove that you have purchased insurance for their package.
This way you can enjoy the money back from using Auctiva insurance and your customers know their packages are insured.
Upic (the insurance company that we use) prefers that the box not state "insured" on it because it could increase the chances of the box being tampered with.
Just my two cents
Happy Listing! Cara

In my experience USPS insurance is a big hassle and almost not even worth bothering with. I only have one experience to speak of but it took almost 3 months to get my money back.

But the customers do not believe us that it is insured...
"A wise and frugal government, which shall restrain men from injuring one another, which shall leave them otherwise free to regulate their own pursuits of industry and improvement, and shall not take from the mouth of labor and bread it has earned. This is the sum of good government." Thomas Jefferson, First Inaugural Address; March 4, 1801

(Question to be sure I did it right). I also prefer to use the regular Ebay USPS insurance. I tried it once with Auctiva (with $5 bucks) so now to disable it I went to My Account/Checkout Settings, then I DEselected the Yes for "Use Auctiva Secure Checkout". But then I noticed under Account Settings there was a second option that didn't change (I'm glad I caught it). Under "Use Auctiva Secure Checkout" I also had to click "NO". Did I cover all the bases or is there more pages I have to remove Auctiva Insurance?
Also, what exactly does that mean to NOT use Auctivas "Secure Checkout", besides not using their insurance? Am I losing anything else by not using them?
Thanks for feedback.
My reason is similar to Micki's and it confused one of my Buyers and I just don't want to hassle with it for a couple pennies savings.
I use U-PIC insurance through Endicia, my postage service, and it's far superior to USPS insurance. Much cheaper and the claims process is much easier. I had a USPS insurance claim on an Express Mail I shipped to France that was never received. Even though there was ample proof the package was never received, the claim process to 10-11 MONTHS.
I send my buyers an e-mail letting them know I use U-PIC and no insurance stamp or sticker will be on the package, and send them a link to U-PIC website. I've never had anyone complain.
Bisquit, that's what I mean. what does Auctiva Checkout mean? I disabled it, so it means when the listing ends the customer will receive the normal Ebay Invoice? I thought I was disabling the insurance. What exactly do I do to only disable the insurance? THANKS for help, anybody.

If you've disabled Auctiva Checkout, then your buyers will go through eBay's checkout system, get eBay's invoices, etc. Auctiva Checkout does enable buyers to purchase insurance directly from Auctiva. If you disable Auctiva checkout, you have the option of buying the insurance manually from Auctiva (through their "Transactions" screen), or simply buying it from USPS (if you prefer).
A quick question - How could you verify that your package to France was never received? I sent a package to France via Airmail Letter Post - unfortunately not registered (lesson learned!) - and I have the post office receipts for the postage and I have the customs form number. The post office here in the U.S. says they can't track it and the postal service in France isn't doing anything either. Now the buyer wants their money back and has opened a dispute through PayPal. I think she agrees that I sent the package, but nevertheless, PayPal will take the money out of my account to reimburse her! It was an expensive transaction to begin with, and if PayPal sides with her, I'll be out both inventory and money! Yikes! How do you prove non-receipt of goods?
2purrcats... USPS Express Mail has a tracking number and must be signed for. The French delivery service supposedly left the package at the dorr in a hallway in an apartment building, and didn't get a sugnature. When questioned, they could not even produce a delivery log for the packages delivered that day.
AirMail letter post is not insurable through USPS (another reason to use a 3rd party insurer like U-PIC). How long has your package been in transit? I have seen some ridiculous delays in Europe for airmail, like 1-2 months for delivery.
Basically, if you can't prove delivery, PayPal will find in your buyer's favor.
2purrcats, the same thing happened to me and Paypal sided with the Buyer, which I honestly don't blame them. The Buyer said she never got her package and since she paid through Paypal (and I didn't ship through Paypal which gives automatic delivery confirmations, a valuable lesson I learned and I'll never make that mistake again)--they took the money out of my account and reimbursed her. It took over a month but they did refund her. BUT, I was told if you call Paypal and explain your side of it, they will usually give you a One Time charge back if it's the first time it's happened. So I called (what the heck, had nothing to lose) and they reimbursed me back the money. So, it's worth a try! Call them 1-888-221-1161. Hope that helps.
Thanks for the replies, Imdean and Queenie. I mailed the package back on March 23. It was coins, so I think it was held up in customs. You would think that with the customs label number they'd be able to find it. I guess it could have gotten stolen. I'd hate to think that the buyer got it but is claiming she didn't. She seems honest, but difficult to tell long distance.
If PayPal finds in her favor, I will DEFINITELY give them a call! I didn't know that they offered a one-time charge back. That's great news!
I'll look into U-PIC. Does it cause you much additional time when you print your labels? I use PayPal to print mailing labels - domestic only. Would you mind posting the link?
Thanks to all! Auctiva folks are just plain wonderful!
2purrcats, well I don't want to make it sound like it's a "for sure" thing with the one time reimbursement. I think I just got lucky and I think it depends on the phone rep you get at the time. If they're in a good mood or you get someone willing to bend the rules a little. Like anything else. I got some wrong Verizon charges reversed and I KNOW I got lucky with that because the first gal wouldn't do it but I called back again and asked to speak to a Supervisor. Pushy little booger aren't I?
If you cannot prove that the package arrived and you don't follow PayPal's seller protection policy, you are usually out of luck, out your money and out your item.
Don't reply on any one time "freebie" from PayPal. Chances of that are very slim.
