I would think that the lack of buying and selling privacy that this new system promotes will actually have an overall dampening effect on the ebay marketplace.

If sellers start using more private auctions, they will lose potential bidders who do not want to bid when they can't see who the other bidders are, due to the possibility of shill bidding.

Buyers, on the other hand, may be less likely to participate when they catch on the the fact that their every purchase is now out there for everyone to see so easily. Also, past price information on items has always been available by doing a completed auctions search.

Does anyone know ebay's stated rationale for making this obnoxious change? I'm sure they think that making the info on transactions more easily accessible somehow facilitates the buying/selling process, but it totally ignores the critical function of privacy in that process. Sorry, I fail to see any real benefit here to anyone, including ebay itself. Frown
