In the past several months, the site being down for updates and maintenance frequently is a major inconvenience. Mad One suggestion would be to do your updates and maintenance at times that would have minimum impact to your paying subscribers. Shutting the site down for this purpose for 1-2 hours during the peak of the business day is really not acceptable. How about doing this at 1:00 AM PST instead? Just a thought....

Hi- they ended up cancelling for today.

However. . my guess would be:

1. Because people all over the world list through them and obviously have different time zones so can't make convenient for everyone.

2. Overtime pay. If not done during pacific hours would require overtime pay for auctiva and anyone else they bring in if outsiders are used.

However, I do not know that for a fact. Would sure be nice to spread the down time for other time zones occasionally.

Just my thoughts and none of this is fact.
it is true that they have clients all over the world. However, I am willing to bet the majority are in the US. If that is accurate than yes they should accommodate their paying customers. As to over time pay that doesn't exist for IT folks and they are used to strange hours. Take that from someone who has been I the IT world for 38 years

by the way we're fast approaching the one week anniversary of the outage and the communication is just as abysmal. in reality we have received zero information on what happened and what will be addressed going forward. believe me these discussions have happened and are happening as we write these posts. Now they can't give us the "dirty" details but at least throw us a bone now and again.

I feel most for you store owners as you were impacted perhaps more severely than us eBay'ers
Ed, I feel same as you on ALL accounts here, I hate the update time & wish it was rotated. I think in this day and time everyone works strange hours with no O/T. Even we all work strange hours, we pick them which is great!

You know store owners really have not said much, or at least the ones I know. Maybe because they do not have to end their listings at certain times to get the most exposure. I would guess unless they planned to list that night or checked forums they did not know difference, they just thought bad night no sales.

By the way, how are things for you at bonanza your store is beautiful and you have really nice things. May have to drop some hints to Santa this year that I have been a good girl. (though I am sure Auctiva people would surely disagree - none in particular just most of them - ha)

Hi there

The store owners should have been hit hard as they could do no business at all. At least we had listings on eBay that were still available (even if the things hosted on Auctiva weren't available)

Bonanza is nice we've had 11 sales since last November which isn't great. However others do very well it depends on what you are selling I think

another interesting site is addoway.com. no sales there yet but its free and they import from ebay

take care

Ed Neff, I also would have thought commerce would have been going nuts. I can't figure out why. (unless they just list during week). If I had not been trying to list I would not have known. I have friend who is on vacation arranged come back the day after her listings ended this weekend.. she is going to be in for BIG surprise when she realizes she had NONE end or start. I checked her email for her and no note from auctiva. I have not told her, as no sense messing up her vacation.

I have been scoping bonanza for quite awhile, and seriously thinking that direction. I actually want to put discontinued cosmetics on there. Had not heard of addoway. . will scope that out.

thanks for that information!
