Hi,
First I must say I like Auctiva. Now, I have used the template #10080 since I started. Now there is a box with the word "Description" in it. I hate it! How do I get rid of that? Do I need to create a custome template so I can use the old version? If so, could you please direct me to some instructions on custom template? Where are they uploaded or created and saved? How do I add them to my listings? And most of all why was it changed? It was really nice and elegant before. Now the "description" in the box is too big! Please change for the better, not backwards.

Sorry for the rant but it is very annoying.

Thank you,

Vera

Quick follow up: I created a custome template from the "Create a Custom Template" link using an exhisting template (the one I like) to see if I could remove the "Description" box but it didn't work. Is it embeded in the {Description} token and how do I get rid it, please? Thank you.

Carol,

Thank you for the reply. The box in case (Description) is imbeded in the token for description so it shows no matter what I do. I had built a custom template like that and tried it on one of my listings. It shows up anyway, no matter what I do.

It's too bad, the listings looked so nice before. The boz size is too big, doesn't belong there in my opinion. I don't know why they would change it, it looked so good before.

Thank you very much for the help.

In an attempt to make all templates perform virtually the same, we have added these "Description" and "Shipping and Payment" images/text to all. There has been a mjor stink over some of them offering these tags while others do not. The only work around we have for this currently, is to create your own custom template-from exsisting if you like, add the proper Description, Images, Shipping, etc... tags and save the new template. This will remove those images that you do not like. The topic is being reviewed, so that in the future we may be able to provide our customers with a "switch" so they can turn this function on and off as they please. This is not a guarantee but it is being considered. I hope that you find this information useful.

Ugh!

When I was first choosing some templates, I was not thrilled that some had it and some didn't. But I took the layouts into account when choosing templates. For one type of item was I was listing, I liked having all the info together. So I used a nice simple template that had no "description" or "payment" tags. Now the "description" header is almost as big as the logo I am selling.

I guess I have to figure out how to grab the source for the original template and take it out (can we do that?) or change things in my saved listings. Or do I just ride it out in case you change it back??
Hello Mermaidstudio1,

When an exsisting Auctiva template is taken into the custom template builder all the inside elements are stripped out, meaning the colors , fonts, images (ie. Description), .... are taken out so the end user has ultimate control. To put back in colors for your borders and links you will need to apply in-line styles for these things.
Hi Starrynight,

There are two ways to remove this "Description" image, one is to create a custom template like I discussed earlier in this thread, or two you may wish to list your item, then at eBay you can revise your listing, go in and find the image that you do not wish to use and cut it out. I apologize for the inconvienence until we can find a satisfactory resolution these are the only solutions I can think of currently.

Brent, do you Auctiva guys realize that this is NOT an "inconvenience" for those of us that have hundreds of ads?? How can you expect us to revise every item (when there are hundreds) in eBay? Likewise, even if we create a custom template that avoids the ugly as sin boxes, how can you expect us to edit hundreds of existing ads in Auctiva, even though it might just be a matter of changing the template that the ads use. We picked the specific template(s) we use because we liked the appearance of those templates, and now we are not happy with the way the templates we picked look! You've made a change that was completely unnecessary and will require a ridiculous amount of time for some of us to work around. This is unacceptable.
Well said, DMH.

Auctiva guys, is there a way you can return the templates to what they were, and also have the new version of them avaliable for those who wish to change to them? It seems like that would result in happier customers.

I have been making some listings on here and will probably move all my ads over here in the next month. This recent change kind of scares me. It's imprudent to make a global change like this, especially without consulting members for opinions first.
My feelings, exactly. Well said, DMH.

I am a former Power Seller. I have over 1,000 items to list in the upcoming months. I am looking for a service that not only will grow, it has us Sellers in mind. I understand the service is gratis and sort of experimental, no problem there. I don't understand and can't accept the fact that our time is irrelevant. Most of all because the bigger a Seller you are, the less time you have to redo listings you already did, without actually having any say (or at least prepare) for said changes. I must say I am very disappointed. Maybe they will be able to revert this without causing any more damage.

Does it take forever for the pages to open or is it just my dsl? Does anybody else have this problem? Please let me know.

Thanks for the help!

Mermaid, it DOES take a long time for listing pages to load - you should try it on my dialup line if you think your DSL is bad Wink

I've never understand why it takes as long as it does to load, but it's always been that way for me so I've never made a big deal about it. But these changes to the "standard" templates without even telling us ahead of time, and the changes to the insurance rates without telling us until 3 weeks after the fact completely disregard the value of the time and effort that we sellers exert in making our listings. Changes like that are NOT an "inconvenience" - they cost us much time correcting things, and that time is essentially wasted, it's not available to post new listings.
