Hi, I am very new to Auctiva. I purchased a domain name from Auctiva and have tried 2 ftp programs but still can't connect to my domain name with either of them. The first was Ipswitch ftp and the second was SmartFTP. When using Ipswitch the error comes back as can not connect. With SmartFTP the tiny magnifying glass just goes round in a circle and nothing happens. I know I am missing something but just don't know what. So to recap, how can I get an FTP program to connect to my Auctiva purchased domain? Thanks very much for any help! Maria

Why would you want to FTP connect to your auctiva store, i.e. do file transfer? Confused

Maybe I'm missing something or not understanding your purpose, but let me clarify what a domain name is.

The registered domain name is simply a reserved unique name tied to a device's IP address location on the internet? In this case, the name (purchased through Auctiva) is tied to the server at Auctiva hosting your auctiva ebay store. It's a way to personalize or enhance the identity of your store to customers, but isn't techically a service (e.g. hosting) by itself.

Ahhh.....just thought of a good analogy. You bought personalized licenses plates for a car, but the plates won't make the car run any differently.....just looks good and are hopefully memorable to those that see them! Smile

Hey Jeff....If you like that analogy, go ahead and put it on the Domain sales page. It might help folks understand what the Domain Name does for them. Isn't the 1st time I've detected confusion on the subject.

Thanks for the reply.

Purchased the domain name thinking it would be a regular website, not just an Auctiva store. I had wanted to include info (ebooks, etc.) that people could download and was told that ftp was how to do it. So it's not possible to include free ebooks, etc.?

Good analogy by the way. Guess instead of "buying personalized license plates" should have purchased a different vehicle (buying the domain name outright).

Thanks again.

ebay just implemented a new policy eliminating the auctioning/selling of downloadable material, including ebooks.

Auctiva isn't currently offering full eCommerce services, although they've stated IT'S COMING.

Jeff....it is a CONFUSING PRODUCT for those that don't have a techie knowledge of the NET.

GoalieMom,

If you purchased your domain name through Auctiva, this is not equivalent to a website purchase of the sort you can FTP to. It's meant for your Auctiva Store home page, and you cannot FTP to your Auctiva Store home page. The Auctiva Store page is meant to be a place to showcase your Auctiva listings, and the Auctiva Store, unlike eBay stores, is free (except for your domain). The use of a personalized domain name you purchased from us is meant to increase traffic to your page and make it appear more professional.

Hope this helps!
