This will REALLY hurt us no matter where we sell! Ha, the recent eBay newsletter suggests using FREE shipping to keep those darn stars up. What do you guys plan to do, if anything, when the increase goes into effect? Can anyone think of a reasonable work around? Raising the price of an item THAT much seems futile to me.

Oh, I believe free shipping will be given extra weight in the Best Match criteria. So you can have an item ending in two hours and it might show up on the 4th or 5th search page. Ugh.

I currently offer free shipping with a few clauses, 1st the total purchase must be $75.00 or more in combined purchases and Second all transactions must be completed within 1 week from the first win. So if you win on Monday then you have until Monday of the following week.

Side note, I don't know about other states but Oregon is a self insure state which means merchants can self insure and charge an insurance fee for items they ship providing they have liquid assets equal to three times the value of what they are shipping. Considering, That the PO loses 3-5 pkgs a year at an average cost of $15.00 per pkg I just build in an insurance charge of $1.50 + the auctual cost of shipping. My customers know that regardless of what happens then they are covered. I do tell them that shipping includes insurance.

And that is my 2 cents worth.....if gas prices keep going up it maybe it will have to be thats my 2 bits worth...lol

Thanks Burly, I see you have this down pretty good already. I'm a bit confused about the self-insure thing. I obviously need more coffee!
