I'm trying to create a listing for a fishing rod to be shipped in a long cylindrical tube. I'm trying to figure out if a prospective bidder will get a correct rate from the Auctiva calculator for USPS charges as it doesn't appear that the rate calculator takes into account the usps requirement for the girth figure. As I look at the template, it only asks for A. Large Package B. LxWxh. Am I not understanding the template or do I need to go to the USPS site and calculate a flat rate

Hi doublest,

Thanks for contributing to our forum.

You are correct that our interface for purchasing USPS shipping labels does not consider the "Girth" value for nonrectangular packages so, in order to get the most accurate estimate possible, I recommend requesting this particular estimate from: http://postcalc.usps.com

Based on the testing I have done, I believe you will most likely get the same estimate in most cases, but you may as well make sure to take the girth into account since the USPS website provides that option when calculating shipping for nonrectangular packages.

I hope this helps. If you need any more specific assistance, please feel free to contact our Customer Support team directly from under the “Help” tab and we will be happy to continue working with you.

Thanks for the reply. I am aware of the usps calculator and have used it in the past. The reason for my inquiry is that I want to list an already expensive light weight item to ship in a cylindrical tube and since the usps shipping charges vary by as much as $15.00 depending on destination in the USA , a prospective bidder may be deterred from bidding by exorbitant shipping charges. I would welcome any suggestions to solve my dilemma.
Hi doublest,

Thanks for the clarification

Ebay also does not offer the option to enter the “girth” when entering your package dimensions during the listing process, so I not believe it is possible to ensure that factor is taken into account when selecting the calculated shipping option.

I would not expect the “girth” to make much of a difference in most cases since it is so closely related to the “width” and the “height”, but I'm sure USPS must offer that option on their site for a reason so I certainly understand your concern.

At this point, I recommend contacting eBay's Customer Support team to see if they have any ideas on how best to use the calculated shipping option for nonrectangular packages.

-Mike
