Hi, I did look to see what I could find on this topic but didn't see anything on the boards.
Return policy - I'm guessing that when ebay checks to see if we've listed a return policy that they will look in the return policy details box. But it seems that in order to type any info in that box when using auctiva, I would have to check off that I accept returns otherwise the policy box is blacked out. If a person does not accept returns where do they put that so that ebay recognizes that there is a return policy listed?

Thanks Reba & Linda for the info & comments.
I don't know if the changes they make to the return box will help me or not but we'll see. I had simplified my original question as it was easier to ask it that way. I will take a return if there was a mistake in the listing etc. If it was my mistake then I would take a return or do something about it. So I guess technically I do take returns even if Paypal doesn't get involved lol but my concern was if I check the box that says I take returns then the buyer might not read the details and assume I take returns regardless of the reason. That's why I just want to be able to write in the box without having to check off anything. But I've changed some of my listings and checked off the box and put an explanation so we'll how it goes. Smile
Linda, I know that Paypal seems to dictate what we do a lot of the time but I'm thinking that if a person has a clear and reasonable policy...for example "a return must be made within 2 weeks" and then the buyer wants to return something after a month..then maybe just maybe PP will stand up for the seller. A girl can hope anyway. lol

What I did on mine was check the returns policy option, and then basically stated my present policy which is along the lines of "Books are sold in "as in" condition, and returns are not accepted unless there was an unintentional misrepresentation of the item.

I want my customers to know that I stand behind my product, but obviously I don't want to be anyone's lending library.

For whatever its worth, most people who do offer a return policy, state that its rarely used, and its just good customer service to have some kind of return policy. Both the LAW, and PayPal will support the customer in most instances, so, assuming that you will eventually have some kind of refund or return in the normal course of business is just good policy. Plan for it...and just HOPE it comes later rather than sooner.

Hi, By default it is good to have a return policy and to have it written in the default return policy section and repeated several times. This is my basic policy:
"Returns are accepted for items that are not as pictured and described in the item listing. Returns for any other reason will be decided on an individual basis and refunds or replacements may be approved less shipping costs. Damaged items will be replaced or refunded if a replacement is not available, for insured shipments only, we cannot be held liable for shipping damage on uninsured shipments."
I have this or a variation of this statement saved in my default return policy, terms of sale, shipping, or basically anyplace where I could save statements or that I think that a buyer might look for terms and/or return information. That way it shows up on my eBay listings by default from my preferences along with it being included from my Auctiva profiles that I have setup. Sort of a twist on the repetition teaching model, repeat it several times and it might sink in.

I had to laugh when I read that, I think we state in at least THREE places in our listings that we Only ship to PayPal Confirmed addresses, in small and large text and still 25% of our order are from Unconfirmed addresses. But we can live in hope.
