You could create a test listing...like a 1 cent store item w/ free shipping and have someone you know bid on it and go through checkout.

As long as you've entered your Authorize.net info at Auctiva -> My Account(tab) -> checkout Settings, the gateway should be functional but I understand your concern. Doing a test listing is probably a good idea.
