Are there special API calls to deal with data lost or not collected during times of non-operation?

It seems then, if everyone (meaning the developers) is on a level playing field then there should be no reason to assume that functionality available to one developer isn't available to all.

For instance, items that I list through auctiva never get live bid updates in the Auctiva Store Window . There are other developers that seem to get that info into their "Store Windows" (flash galleries) and make that info available to prospective bidders right through the auction life-cycle. That is an area of functionality that would certainly enhance the user experience at Auctiva.
Anything that improves the user experience seems that it would tend to grow your user base .
