I believe the scrolling gallery shows up to 14 listings using those ending nearest to the end time of the auction it is shown on. There is an option to hide listings which can sometimes help with what is shown.

The gallery udates every 2 to 4 hours. (I think) I don't have an eBay store so I'm not sure there.
