Lucky you! Actually, I don't have much personal experience as I've only given one neg (for a deserving NPB) and for that one I received retaliation. But I hear quite often how retaliatory negs are almost a given and it seems pretty likely to me. I suppose there are other factors -- like if you wait until the last second maybe they won't have time to "return the favor" or maybe if you wait long enough they won't consider it worth their time to respond. Who knows.

Actually, that's half right, as I understand it. I believe the deal is that if they don't respond to the UID then they can still leave feedback and it will show up but it won't have the neg icon and it won't count against your score.
Which is just as good because a calm, factual response to the feedback left will negate whatever negative comments they have.
