If you work hard eBay is a great place. I think a lot of people just think they can show up, post a few listings, and make a lot of money and get disappointed when that isn't the case. Everyone I see that does well on eBay works very hard at it. Probably even more so than if they had a real job. But this way they're in control of when they work, and who they're working for!
