Geting Specific Items displayed in Showcase

I have a lot of short term BIN usually three days, up to 100 a day.
There are certain one I want to have displayed in the Scrolling Showcase, but I don't want to edit the items every day.

Do promoted items take priority over normal items? would it be possible to create say 15 shop items and set these as the only promoted items I have and have them show up everyday for a month? and the normal BINs not displayed?
