My first guesses would be either a service problem or you've got an add-on product to the system or browser that's causing the problem.

If you are running IE7, do you have any add-ons running? Check IE Toolbar - Tools - Manage Add-ons - Enable or Disable Add-ons... to see what's running. You can disable one or all, or there is a way to simply launch IE7 without add-ons: Start - All Programs - Accessories - System Tools - Internet Explorer (No Add-ons)
