I use Microsoft PhotoDraw to create composite images for my Gallery images. I like doing that in situations where I use Gallery Plus for the pop-up on mouse-over in the gallery. Here's a sample:

I also used Gallery Featured for listing upgrade. The sale Net-ed 188.1% with an ROI on the coin of 315.2%, and was done in auction format with a high initial start price of $499. Trust me....auctions aren't dead, the process is simply abused to the point of disfunction.
Another trick on Gallery is to keep the image either square or bias to height:width ratio. That tends to block the listing and make it stand-out in the crowd. That bright color border has much the same effect as the "highlight" upgrade that eBay makes you pay for.
