Image size on Auctiva and my hard drive don't agree

I scan images and upload them to Auctiva. Why are the sizes so much different. An example: when I look on my hard drive the size of the image is 95.8 kb. When I upload to Auctiva it says the image is 124.64 KB Why the discrepancy as it is a huge increase in size?
