Hugh Williams, VP of Experience, Search, and Platforms at eBay, has given many interviews and webinar presentations about Cassini. He was asked specifically if the HTML in templates would hurt a listing's visibility in search, and he said that the search engine strips out HTML and only looks at the actual content in the description.

Many of our sellers do not use templates in their listings and haven't for years, so that is always an option--no one is forced or made to feel obligated to use our templates. We will save your listing information as always, for as long you have an account with Auctiva.

As Mike D. and others have pointed out previously, we do support eBay's gallery images, and that option can be found on the one-page lister in the image section.

If you have any other questions or concerns please feel free to file a support case and our team will reply to you as soon as possible.

Thank you & happy selling!

Hello Rebecca......
Not exactly what Huge said as is not a stripper it is a search engine.
Here is the problem even using your example and I am paraphrasing information from eBay.....The descriptions we add to the templates are imbedded in the template HTML...so on eBay's end it is all one HTML and the search engine will be ignoring it as a whole HTML. It is only separate on the Auctiva end. It, Cassini, does not and won't distinguish the template separate from what is imbedded in it. It can't as it has no pre-programmed information on each template Auctiva or any other 3rd party provider, etc has to remove only that from the HTML...or as you said to strip it out.
So in part you are correct in what is said but left out the last part of it.
To them, on their end, it is just one HTML....and you can see this when you go to eBay to revise a listing and select the HTML view in the description area. Everything is in one HTML...it is one HTML.

Also some seller still showing at the top of search results isn't proof of anything other than Cassini is not the sole search engine just yet and is still being used in conjunction with Voyager and will be until the end of this year for US sellers and is still using titles and item specifics in some cases which has been explained in interviews and webinars and specifically by Huge Williams.
Sellers in other countries are behind us as far as use of Cassini so their items are not really being effected at all yet.....so their items will also still show and be searched as they always have been and will still show in results as they always have been.

Ebay is also confirming and clarifying this information. Don't take my word for it. Call eBay, talk to an account specialist and ask.

But thank you, Rebecca, for taking the time to respond.
