Oh you have to be careful of their hips...honest! I have some info and if you'll email me at Suthrnjewl@Suthrnjewl.com I'll send it to you. I watched a show on Animal Planet where the backside of the bassett eventually was displaced due to old age and they made the dog a little trailer to sit in with wheels and he basically got around quite well. Better than me! <smile> But as long as your on top of it and know what to watch for..it'll be fine. Plus I don't know what the mixture of bassett and lab could do as far as hip problems. Bassett's also have a higher than norm level of seizures. Bo did. We would talk him through them and hold him while he had them. People think our bassett hounds aren't smart..and actually they aren't that high on the intelligence level (yours should be higher though with the lab mix) but Bo knew two tricks..and would do them...when he wanted to. <smile> Bassett's do what they want, when they want to and know just how to get to their owners. And dangit all, if I don't end up smiling half the time when it's mischief that he knows he's not to do.
