Pls - DELETE selections in "recently used category"

Being able to pick a "recently used category" when listing seems to be a nice time saving option - on the surface....

However, my drop down contains 500+ "recently used categories" that have accumulated over the months. Scrolling through these is far more trouble than it is worth. How can I deleted these and start fresh????
