This problem might occur if you click on the 'Design Editor' link before the page has finished completely loading. Wait a minute after clicking on the Edit button on the manage template page before trying to click over to the Design Editor and see if that works better.

We will look into adding a 'Loading...' message to notify you when this page has completely loaded and is safe to switch views.
