I agree that a store newsletter is worthwhile. Unfortunately, I haven't done such a stellar job in getting sign-ups. Personally, I have to focus making it easier for my potential customers to sign-up (ie, embedding my store logo with a link to sign up for the newsletter).

Even the basic generic newsletter that eBay creates for you is pretty decent!
