I agree with the suggestion of a System Status flag on the front page. I think it's beneficial to visit these boards regularly but one click from the front page would make it a whole lot easier for a lot of people.

(As an aside: Personally, if I came across a listing for four comics and saw the shipping up top as 10 bucks I'd most likely hit the Back button before investigating the small print.)
