I think I figured out the problem. Somehow I have 2 different versions of Java installed.

I removed both, from add/remove in control panel and also disabled/unistalled from the add-ons and plug-in section of Firefox.

I then reinstalled Java, and things picked up quite a bit.

Try it and see if that would fix the problem.
