why do I need a new token

I am still curious why I have this big red warning that my token is going to expire in 6 months. I frankly can't see the urgency in this and would prefer to wait until it is within 30 days or something reasonable. I sent a help ticket and never got a response to that. Not a huge deal but very annoying to me.
