It can sometimes take longer, but let's get this into perspective:

  • Auctiva are providing us with what I can only describe as a bloody good, FREE service.
  • If they did not carry out regular maintenance, then the service would eventually fail, simple fact. They need to regularly service their infrasructure, just like we need to service our cars.
  • You cannot please all the people all the time - anyone selling on eBay already knows that! Wink So unfortunately, there is no timeslot that would suit everyone. As Auctiva is based in the US, it's probably reasonable that they do this during the small hours in the US. If Auctiva were to place servers throughout the world, so each Geography could have their own maintenance slot in their own small hours, I suspect this service would no longer be free, and in fact may well cost a small fortune.
  • It appears that all newbie Auctiva-ites (me included), suffer distress at this on their first experience of it, but once you know, you avoid this period. It is unfortunate that Auctiva do not give a warning about this when we first sign up, but that's the way it seems to be.

I agree with you entirely Pete, I just wanted to make sure it wasn't my fault, puter playing up etc, thanks for your reply, cheers minx

A matter of opinion. They make their pennies from this. It was a choice, I suppose. I had to weigh up the benefits against all the clutter with "Auctiva" written everywhere. Looks like it's back to HTML for a while.

Carlos, yes, they do make their pennies, but they are not making any out of me, I only use their free service, which is why I won't complain about minor difficulties such as this, I will adapt to them.

@Minx, no problem, glad to help. The first time I experienced it I thought the world had ended, but a swift question to this forum explained it. It is a pity that there is no upfront warning, it would save a lot of distress, but you should see a message when you try to log in, explaining about the window - it doesn't always work though Roll Eyes
I don't know about you folks in the U.K. but here in the U.S. last night as maintenence was going on, we had a flashing 'warning' button at the top of the screen. When clicked, it shows a pop-up advising of the maintenence and expected length of time.
The only time I didn't see the warning sign was last Thurs night...it would certainly help if they had it for everyone Smile
