Since the scrolling gallery slows the page load to a crawl, if I have an item that I think stands on it's own (no other like items) I turn off the scrolling gallery on the listing page. When looking at that item on eBay after listed the scrolling gallery is still present.

Why can I not turn off the scrolling gallery on individual items? Why is the check box there if it does not function? Anybody else notice this?

What checkbox? There is no place/setting/checkbox on the listing page to "turn off" the scrolling galley, so that may be why you cannot turn it off. You have to go to your account setting page to turn it "off" and that will only work on new listings you create, not current ones you have on Ebay. To my knowledge you can't choose which listings to have the gallery on and which ones to leave it off of.
Right under the Template Title there is a check box that reads "Use template-matching Scrolling Gallery". I thought it turned the scrolling gallery off for that specific listing but I guess it just uses a non template matching scrolling gallery instead. Rather vague.

I don't feel that cross promoting is needed with some items but it appears there is no choice if the gallery is on. It's on for all listings.
