I guess I'm missing something. I'm not having any success changing the colors of the showcase with custom colors. Is there a trick to it?

Are you trying to hand enter your hex codes? If so make sure to enter a "0x" before the six digit hex number. If that "0x" are not there then it will not work. Next make sure to scroll up the page a bit and click "Update Preview". In order for these changes to be officially your new store window colors then you will also need to click "Save Changes" once you like what you see.

I also forgot to mention if you are adding black, hex code "0x000000", this will not work and default back to the original store window color. The work around to this is to make the code close, say "0x000006", this will make it appear pretty near black.
