Hi Jack, I too am soooooooooo frustrated. I have been working on this for 3 days.. I cant seem to figure out what to do.. Have made very little progress. I have figured out that you change the listing to standard instead of html.and then type in your tags..Save it. Then it will go to the listing with the correct things on it..
But When I sent mine this moring afte 15 tries. It is huge.. I cant figure out how to make it smaller to fit the screen??/
I bought several templates off ebay and I cant figue out how to use them. Wish you luck..Judy
Hi Folks,

If you can copy and paste your templates to www.practicewriter.com and post back the link practicewriter provides to the Forum, I'll be glad to give them a look and advise on the problems.

Suggestions....

Jack, the common reason for the listing page to reject the template is missing [DESCRIPTION] or [DESCRIPTION_AND_IMAGES] tag. One or the other is mandatory.

Judy, did your template provider add the necessary Auctiva tags for use when they stored the template for you?

Using the Save and Preview in the custom template builder might give clues to problems.

The tags in the tag system must always be in caps, e.g. [DESCRIPTION], not [Description].

Here is the URL from practice writer. When I look at it on the preview in Auctiva custom template it does not show the tag lines payment contact me etc. The problem I am having with this template is getting it from where I selected it on the "select template" under "custom" to the listing page. It just does not loadto the listing page. I will send the other problems along as well........ soon
Here is the URL for the another template I am having a problem with. http://PracticeWriter.com/vu/?62B2C. It doesn't load right on the lister page. The Font on the des and payment bodies look different then the rest. The font under the shipping is a lot bigger is that beause it is a table. I sure do not know what is going on but I have about had it with these templates. I am running Visa Home if that might be a problem. thanks for any help you can past along.
Hi Jack,

In both cases, you need to replace the text in the template for each section by its associated Auctiva tag. Since there isn't a [DESCRIPTION] or [DESCRIPTION_AND_IMAGES] tag in the templates, the one-page lister would reject them (won't allow use). That explains that problem.

As example, on that first practicewriter link, the description section text "You are bidding on the 2004 Hallmark Ornament Yertle ... yada yada ... down to THANKS for LOOKING! where the tag for [PAYMENTINFO] starts that section is replaced by the [DESCRIPTION_AND_IMAGES] tag to allow you to use the image selection and the description fill-in box on the one-page lister, i.e. that's where that text belongs. The tags for the seller details would replace each of those text sections, and you create a Seller Details profile where you store those text sections. On the one-page lister, you select the Seller Details at the right of where template is selected. That coincides with your speculation about payment (needs text removed and replaced with [PAYMENT]. One more...The titles at the top are replaced with the [TITLE] tag.

Hope that all makes sense. If it doesn't, post back questions. This can be "rocket science" for many, so it's not wrong to ask. Sounds like you got a bunch to do, so I'll try to get you going down the right path. BTW....looking at one of Auctiva's templates as an example using the Customize an Auctiva Template can really give you a good guideline.

Jack,

The <!-- and --> before and after the tag make it a comment field that's disabled the tag from actually working. Remove the <!-- and --> and save. That will get the description section working. You also then need to remove the description text for insertion in the description editor box in the one-page lister.

Hi Judy,

If you're using a PC, just place the mouse in the template editor box with box in HTML mode and click to get the box "in focus" (cursor bar blinking inside the box), then do a right mouse click and Select All. That will highlight all the text in the box (probably in blue). Then do a right mouse click again and select Copy. At practicewriter, click on the empty box and the cursor will appear in the box to give it focus (should blink at upper left in the box). Then right mouse click and select Paste. All the text should then appear. Use the Save button and copy and paste the link created by practicewriter (using that same right mouse method) to the Forum on a post (like Jack's).

If for some odd reason the right mouse click isn't working. The keystrokes for same are:

Select All is Ctrl-a (Hold down Ctrl key and strike a)

Copy is Ctrl-c

Paste is Ctrl-v

This may becoming a little clearer......... So when I save my template to the one page listing sheet I do not add anything to it just leave it as auctiva had it set up. I then would add my des to the one page lister........ and the other information payment shipping would go in the profile as I have it written. When I do preview my listing that information should be in the right spot within the listing. I will be checking this out. If I an wrong Danno as to what I am saying above let me know let me know. Thanks hope I can get this stuff to work. I think I might be close. JACK

Where do I find this under help?

Hi,

It's not really under Help, per say. The Customize feature under Custom Template on the drop-down list at page top will give you the opportunity to customize any Auctiva template. That also gives you the ability to examine how Auctiva does templates and how the tag system works in detail with examples from their own library.

Danno
Danno: It seems to be working I do have some tweaking to do but for the most part all is OK. I noticed outside my template box is the word description It is above (outside)the template border or christmas lights can that be removed. Also I noticed that the shipping section is a different font is that because it is set up with html as a table? This is great that I am slowly getting it ....... by the way I have 6 grand kids!! JACK
