We are migrating data in our database to improve site performance.

This will result in your past history of items that have listed to eBay and are reflected on your Auctiva account not showing up for a period of time.

All active ebay listings will appear as normal, as these must remain in order for the Auctiva Store window and Store pages to continue to display your running items.

Checkout on any items, auctions or store format listings, will work as normal regardless as to if your "active" or "closed" listings on the Auctiva site display the item information or not.

For those users needing to purchase shipping insurance on items that were not directly listed via Auctiva, you should be able to do so immediately upon item close, just as normal.

I point out the insurance topic because I'd like users to post here if they do have any problems with this process so that we can look into it ASAP.

Upset with this happening tonight on an evening when ebay is offering a listing discount up to midnight. I was right in the middle of a listing and went to post it only to encounter the too frequent site is down message. But then to discover it was initiated deliberately for site maintenance when it was running fast and better than it usually does? It seems better planning around ebay's RARE listing discount days could be made. And, for once, the site was beautifully for me and I was on a run with listings to beat the midnight cut off for the 20 cent listing offer. Very frustrating to your users.
Kevin,
So, even though you knew there was 1 hour left, you guys still ABSOLUTELY had to shut down then?

I am sure that if your dBase was getting ready to blow up, that could be legit. But if it was maintenance and upgrades, YA SHOULDA WAITED 60 MORE MINUTES!!!

I am agrevated at your timing cuz I had about 20 items I was gonna throw up there. And thanks to your site, I probably could have! Pics already uploaded, have my Master template all set, would have been a breeze and saved me about 40 bucks!

I will survive! You guys just keep on improving site (and try to plan better in the future.) I like this place, cheaper than TurboLister and other sites, pretty easy to use, makes decent looking auctions, etc.

I want a refund on your fees! hehe Smile

On everyone of my auctions the Auctiva Store window displays No Items Available which is a real pain in the backside as I could be losing potential customers... I beginning to wonder if this is a great idea after all, this site runs more maintenace than I have hot dinners Confused

This is because our database is down while we move the data. This also happens each week when we do maintenance.

This is one of the reasons we need to speed up the maintenance so that happens for a shorter time. Which is why we're doing this now.

Also we're going to update the showcase to keep data while the maintenance is happening. That way things like this won't affect your store window.

We're going to change that message that is displayed to be something else, so even if it does come up it will be more encouraging to buyers to click the link to view your other items.

will you also be having the usual Thursday night maintenance tomorrow?
Yes, which is why we really needed to do this tonight. There isn't enough time tomorrow to do what we normally do and this special update we're doing now. If we then waited till late Friday then it would have ran into the weekend and our site would continue to be slow. If this all works out it should alleviate the slowness that's been going on for a few weeks.
uh huh.

It's now 7 am eastern time, and the site's still down.

And we have to go through this tonight also?

We were already unable to use the site for much of anything all day Wednesday due to servers apparently being overloaded. Now we get to go through the same thing again, two days in a row?

I use another 3rd party auction service. Their maintenances are completely transparent to users - no down time, no time when images aren't visible, no difference at all. How do THEY do it?
We will be wrapping things up pretty soon.

Other third party sites most likely don't have anywhere close to the number of listings that we deal with. I suppose one of the negatives to being free, the increased volume and strain on the hardware.

We are working on a long term plan though that makes it so that maintenance does not affect users at all.

I logged on at 6.00am GMT and it's now nearly 13.00 GMT - how much longer is this maintenance check and migration of data going to take? I'm all for you speeding things up but we are going to have to go through this again tonight and with the system having been so slow over the last few weeks we've barely had a chance to list anything. We're powersellers and that puts our status as powersellers at risk as we have to hit a set qouta each month to remain so. Not being able to list is damaging business - to hell with it and start charging for your service, that'll soon free up your servers as most people will just jump ship at the sight of a charge!!! Sorry about this but we're a bit disgruntled.
Hi Kevin, I don't know what happened last night but my listings were a diaster. I tried scheduling them for Tuesday night, they never posted. I then rescheduled them for 6:00pm Wednesday night. 2 posted, about 10 or so did not and I had 1 scheduled listing that posted over 10 times. I had to go into Ebay this morning and cancel all the duplicate listings. What a costly glich. But I really like you guys so no backlash from me, just wanted to let you know.
