Below is the message I posted on the eBay Community Board. No solutions, yet, but one reply suggested I also post this on the Auctiva Board. Here it is:

I have been trying for three days to post an auction item through my Auctiva account. Each time I receive an "API Error" message. Auctiva is unable to help me because it is an error generated by eBay. The error message from eBay states I have to "verify" my phone, and steps me through a call-back system that promises to call me immediately )or in one minute) when I enter a 4-digit pin # (only accepts 4 digits).

My phone pin # (in eBay "My Account") is a 6-digit number (4 digit is not accepted). ONE time I did receive a call and a recorded message gave me a 4-digit pin #, but that number doesn't work when I enter it (error message says it's the wrong pin #). Another time I did receive a call back (with the incorrect pin #, I don't know how that happened), but the call dropped. Every other time I attempt to get a call, I either see the pin # reject message, or an error message saying I made too many attempts, so must "wait" to try again. I HAVE contacted your Live Chat service AT LEAST 4 times, and no one was able to resolve the problem. TWICE I was referred to a "specialized team member" chat line, but once the que line was 35 calls, and the other time the call was dropped before the "specialized team member" got to me (only 12-call que that time). It was important to me that this was listed last Friday, but it's now Sunday. I've spent hours on Live Chat and help messages and looking for help anywhere I could, but with no results. I'm a long-time eBay buyer, but recently opened an eBay store and now trying to sell my first item, yet can't do so because of some non-human-related error. My account has been verified and re-verified and Veri-sign verified. eBay representatives can find no reason I should be having a problem posting. Yet, I am. I need a REAL person to solve this problem, but can't seem to find one. any suggestions?

Problem has finally been solved. More of a "process" issue - the eBay web site did not explain the process of "verifying" an account via a phone call. Apparently, when you post an item from a computer not your own, eBay requires you "verify" your identity by having their automated system call your phone number of record. IF that phone number doesn't receive the call (which mine wasn't), you will NOT receive the "pin #" which is contained in the phone call. You must then enter the pin # on the web page, which then allows you to post your item for sale.

My suggestion here (to eBay - although they may never see this)is for eBay to EXPLAIN the process on their error page, so the user knows what is expected. Not having received the pin # from the phone call, I was not able to complete the verification. There should also be an alternative method for verifying, because, if you have your home phone listed with eBay, that's the phone that will ring, even if you are somewhere else.

I suggest you list your cell phone as your primary phone if you may possibly be posting an item from somewhere other than your home.
