eBay Reverses Decision to Shrink Photos
eBay is reversing its decision to shrink photos, according to eBay spokesperson Johnna Hoff on Thursday, after sellers loudly protested the move. This week eBay began shrinking photos on listings once they were closed. Sellers said this was angering customers, who were blaming sellers for the smaller pictures.
eBay's Hoff told EcommerceBytes on Thursday, "As you know, we often test features to ensure they're delivering a great experience for eBay customers. In this case, customers told us large pictures was a critical piece of information so we will be bringing them back."
Sellers were concerned that they would receive claims from buyers who would be unable to tell if the item they received was the item they actually purchased. eBay judges sellers by how many claims are opened (even if the issue is resolved in the seller's favor) and by the feedback they receive from buyers, no matter the cause of the buyer complaints. Sellers who don't meet eBay seller performance standards are ineligible for fee discounts and are pushed lower in search results.
