Newbie here! With eBay rolling out the new Item Page, the header image appears to be larger than 400x300. I want to be able to utilize all of the space provided for the photo and not have any "white" space showing. Is Auctiva planning to update their image hosting to work with eBay's new Item Page format? Or is there anyway to not have images automatically resized to 400x300?
Thanks, Rhonda

Hi Rhonda,

Auctiva does store up to a 1024 x 768 original image, so that should operate correctly with the new standard header image.

The last time I looked at their image box, it was 500 x 500. The discussion of "zoom" function with 1000px on the announcement has me curious too.

This is the 3rd (and hopefully) final incarnation of "New Design", so anything is possible. Versions 1 and 2 were well, let's say, less than enthusiastically received by the masses. Roll Eyes I do like this one better.

Hi Danno,

I guess I didn't ask my original question correctly. Please correct me if I'm wrong, Auctiva automatically resizes to 400x300, correct? eBay is 500x500 so the photos do not fill the entire frame and have the white space. Is there a way to get around the auto resizing or is Auctiva going to change their format to the 500x500 as standard?

Or am I totally missing something because this definitely is not my area of expertise?

Hi,

Well, they do currently display the 400x300 as the standard image in their current template methods and a max 1024 x 768 for their supersize. I haven't seen any suggestion they are going to change to the 500 x 500. It would require rethink of the basic template layouts and designs for everything, like the thumbnail viewer and the slideshow widget. I'm not saying it shouldn't be done, just a major rethink for their products.

I assume you're aware that you could duplicate the 500 x 500 with custom Auctiva template code or even larger (up to the max 1024 x 768 original stored image size). I do that all the time using the already available image tags.

I have a custom template already in Auctiva which the image is set for 500. So when I am creating my listing and selecting photos, should I use Auctiva just for the images embedded in my template and NOT select anything for the header and thumbnail photos and upload those directly through eBay to maintain the correct size? Or am I still confused?
Hi,

One method is use of the image URL tag, e.g. [IMAGE1_URL]. That pulls the original stored image and is used with your own HTML code, e.g. <img src="[IMAGE1_URL]" alt="" height="500" width="500"> If you upload a square image at the limit 768 x 768, that code will insert the image and display at 500 x 500.

You could also use the original image tag and the code builder will add the HTML code, e.g. [IMAGE1_ORG]. That tag inserts at the full size, so a resize of any larger (before or after upload) to 500 x 500 is necessary to do the same job.

You can still select the header/gallery, as always. Auctiva will send them your selected original image and eBay will downsize it for the header and gallery, as always. eBay's 500 x 500 is larger than before, but still not as large as Auctiva's 1024 x 768 limit.
