Hi

I'd love to have an option of a regular free form text field for descriptions.

the problem with the current way of writing your descriptions is that blind people who use screen readers cannot access the edit box with the FCKeditor.

the simple solution would be to offer a regular text form field where users can copy their own html direct into it.

I shouldn't think this would cause too many programming nightmares.

I'll cross my fingers as Auctiva would be stunning if I could just write my descriptions.

Hi

No, that doesn't work because it still uses the FCKeditor edit box.

For a screen reader to be able to access it, it needs to be a regular text edit field like with the Title, Subtitle, Start price etc.

The screen reader simply doesn't acknowledge the existance of the FCKedit box, regardless of the mode it's currently in.

Hi Darren,

There are essentially three different modes you can write your description in. Two use the FCKEditor: Source view and Design view. The third mode is just a regular text field, an HTML TextArea to be exact.. the fields for Title, Subtitle, etc. are HTML Inputs, so they are slightly different, but it is still NOT the FCKEditor.

We added that textarea just in case users had problems using the FCKEditor (such as using a browser that doesnt support it.) so offering a non-FCKEditor solution was pretty important to ensure all our users could edit their descriptions.

The link to switch to the textbox Jeff was refering to is actually above the FCKeditor on the page, not part of it like the button to switch between Source and Design mode is.

Let me know if that helps,

Hi

Quick update.

OK, tha'ts great, I got it to work in fireFox.

Now, here's what's hapening in Internet Exploder.

I click the Text format link and the FCKedit is still there and it is still displaying the Text format link, when it should be displaying the revert back to FCKeditor link.

I've deleted cookies and temp files and reverted the browser bck to default settings in advanced options.

I can't upgrade to IE7 as my software isn't fully compatibile with it right now.

Any other suggestions?

Thanks for your help.

Hi

OK, I'm still having trouble with Internet Explorer.

if I use fireFox simply to write my html description in Text view, save it and then go back to IE, I don't even see the description I've written in FireFox.

I notice that when clicking the Text View link, in firefox it changes to read Design View, with IE it simply reloads the same page with the Text View link still visible.

I did notice however, in the status bar it says something like Java script void, or something very like that, which indicates an error.

Any extra help would really be appreciated as using FireFox isn't really an option for me.

Darren
