hello
Is it possible to use an FTP client to upload images to Auctiva? The specific FTP client I have in mind is Fetch ver 5.11. Thanks.

I'm pretty sure you cannot upload via ftp. Although for 7.95/month sign up with dot5hosting.
Awesome package, 99.9% uptime, 2.5gig transfer rate. 200gb storage...and a whole lot of great tools and applications. I'm really happy with them so far. I just uploaded 500 full product listings to my personal site in about 5 minutes via oscommerce.
Hope it helps,
Dano

Can you provide your site url? I would love to have a look at it. I'm very interested to open a personal site using something like OS Commerce. My programming / server admin skills are minimal so I'm a little scared of taking on the DIY ecommerce solutions for the fact that if security is compromised, I could be liable to lose all kinds of customer financial data etc. What are the risks of this? Would I be financially responsible if my customers credit information was stolen by hackers?

As to customers financial data. It really depends what happens, who you are etc. If consumers card data were stolen via a inexperienced online small business you more than likely will never get a merchant account ever again and can result in being put out of business (court order).

Take simple liability insurance. Someone buys something from you gets hurt and you can in fact be liable. Most "Enterprise sites" we have/do work through require a minimum 1,000,000 of liability insurance. Its not that expensive to maintain but its required.

So... there is no defacto "this is what happens". The only real fact is merchant account providers love to hold small business hostage/accounatable. For example, a chargeback occurs, for something someone bought for .05 cents. It will cost you $25 to respond to the chargeback (and you really have to), the bank will charge you $25 to take the .05 out of your account.

1: Do not go with ANY rinky-dink host provider. The MOMENT something like security hits the fan they will PROVE it was your fault. YOU GET WHAT YOU PAY FOR WHEN IT COMES TO HOSTING eCOMMERCE SITES. You will pay about $40 a month for GOOD ecommerce hosting.
Avoid the cheapy hosting...
