In your preferences ebaY has added an auto opt in for using your picture in a catalog. The pic will come with creds to seller. ebaY thinks it's a service, I'm not liking it so much and have opted out. You must opt out soon if you want to miss the catalog.

Seller gets credit for picture. I see it as free advertising. I'm a little bit proud of my pictures and hope some of mine will be chosen. It might get someone to look at my store even though the pictured item may have been sold long ago.

You are right it's free advertising compliments of ebaY. By the same token Getty gets a ton of dosh when their images are used.
