I have a current customer who has requested a tracking # for their already shipped item which they purchased insurance for. They believe since insurance was purchased, they should receive a tracking #. Does anyone have a suggested reply that I can give to the customer? Is there a tracking #? There has been no claim. Just a question from the purchaser of the insurance. I personally understand that insurance is not for nor does it take the place of tracking or delivery comfirmation. Is this what I tell the customer? I usually get delivery comfirmation but international shipping like this one, does not always allow for it. In short, after the long verson, what is the best way to answer this new customer?

Can I ask how you shipped the item? Was it through the USPS? Was it Global Priority or Airmail Parcel Post, etc? Where did the item get shipped to?

I ship quite a bit internationally using the above methods and the only service that provides real tracking is Global Express Mail BUT I have put in the Global Priority Mail number and even the customs number from the green customs form (for airmail letter post) and was able able to track it to a point (Not always all the way through). There are some very interesting posts on the Ebay discussion boards about using the custom's form number to track to countries like Canada (I can find those links for you if this is how you sent it).

Let us know how the parcel was sent and maybe we can help to some suggestions on what to tell the buyer. Myself, I do not tell the buyers up front that I can see any type of tracking unless there is a problem but found out that I can track packages when a customer in Germany stated that she did not get her package and I could track until it left JFK airport and miraculously it showed up at her door the next day (hmmmmmm Smile

Let us know!

You can go to usps.com and go to "Track a package" and then put the number in....the number normally starts with an "LC" and ends with a "US". If you did not keep the number off the green slip, you can look at your receipt from the PO and it should be on there as well.

I have read on other posts that you can also go to the Canada Post website and put in the number to track it further into Canada.
Here is the link the Canada Post:
Canada Post - track a parcel

Here is the link from the discussions on the ebay store boards about this very subject:

Ebay Discussion Boards - How to Track package to Canada

I found that link to be most interesting....hope this helps and good luck!
